The transgenerational characters from the Monsieur, Madame books take up residence at the Aquarium de Paris and set off to discover Marine Protected Areas. For this new educational and entertaining exhibition, the Aquarium de Paris uses its basins representing all French waters, both metropolitan and overseas, to provide an overview of the world's Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).
Messengers for the protection of the ocean
Accompanied by Mr. Chatouille, Mrs. Bonheur, Mr. Costaud and all their friends, visitors learn about the issues and challenges surrounding MPAs. The colorful, educational characters bring a candid, caring approach to the issue of protecting the ocean and the ecosystems that depend on it.
Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), guaranteeing the future of the Ocean
Delimited maritime areas that meet the objectives of nature protection (fauna, flora and ecosystems), sustainable development and economic activities (such as sustainable fishing and responsible tourism), marine protected areas are refuges for immense biodiversity and resources that can be exploited by humans.
With the world's second most important marine heritage, France, supported by UNESCO, is pursuing a proactive policy of creating and managing MPAs in all its waters. 10% of the world's coral reefs and 20% of its atolls are located in French waters. 23.5% of French waters are classified as Marine Protected Areas.
Providing scientific and institutional support for the exhibition, the Office Français pour la Biodiversité coordinates the network of French MPAs and contributes to France's participation in the creation and management of internationally-decided Marine Protected Areas.
