In an educational and entertaining exhibition, Masha and Mishka present the species of France's rivers and invite young visitors to the Aquarium de Paris to discover the issues surrounding fishing and river management.
Alongside Masha, an enterprising little girl, and her friend Mishka the bear, visitors, especially the youngest, discover protected species and how fishing can play a regulating role.
An educational fishing trail
With messages tailored to children's needs, the exhibition provides a better understanding of the sturgeon, the "fish with the golden eggs". The sturgeon almost disappeared from French rivers in the 20th century, due to the massive consumption of its eggs for caviar, and the installation of locks which disrupted its migration. This species is gradually reappearing in the Gironde and Seine rivers.
The exhibition also presents the incredible odyssey of the eel, which travels thousands of kilometers up rivers and past dams to mate.
You'll also learn about fish management and why certain species, such as perch, need to be fished to regulate their population. The exhibition presents the human interventions that have an impact on the environment and solutions for reducing anthropic pressure.
