The Aquarium de Paris devotes a major exhibition to the artist Lionel Sabatté, presenting some forty works throughout the aquarium.
Lionel Sabatté specially conceived this exhibition as a dialogue with the Paris Aquarium, its basins, fish and architecture. The title, Fabrique des Profondeurs, is a reference to 18th- and 19th-century garden fabriques, places conducive to poetic wandering. Viewers are invited to dream their visit, to descend into the depths of the sea, the depths of the earth and the depths of the unconscious. The artist also confesses to having been influenced by the Parisian geography of the Aquarium district: the presence of the Eiffel Tower not far away is in his eyes benevolent, echoing his creatures with openwork steel bodies.
